linda heywood
I am a Biological Scientist by training, and worked in the Medical Device/Pharmaceutical industry
for 24 years. In 1985 I helped develop the first-ever screenprinted glucose sensor technology
for diabetes testing. I knew then that my industrial printing skills would be redirected artistically
when the time was right. On becoming a stay-at-home mum I enrolled in a local art group. Alongside
drawing and painting, I was introduced to the basics of printmaking, and I became hooked. Meeting
the other members of
Inkus
as we studied for a Certificate in Advanced Printmaking Techniques at the
Curwen Print Study Centre
only cemented this view. I work mainly in relief, producing lino cuts, wood cuts and textile prints with an
oriental twist. Recently I've been experimenting with Toyobo solar plates and natural flora and fauna.
Printmaking for me is all about the element of surprise when you peel away the paper.
